FOR A CLEAN ENERGY FUTURE
THE
PROBLEM
DAMAGE
Our beloved shores are in grave danger. Stronger and more forceful storms are slamming our coast, causing flooding and damaging homes, businesses and our boardwalks and beaches.
Sunny-day flooding is now a fact of life in many towns as sea levels rise and threaten towns on the barrier islands and along the back bay.
HEALTH
Pollution from dirty fossil fuel plants have given New Jersey some of the worst air quality in the nation, causing asthma and exacerbating other heart and lung problems. These impacts are concentrated in Black, Brown, and low-income communities, making clean energy an issue of justice and fairness.
MARINE LIFE
Rising ocean temperatures represent the biggest threat to our marine life and critical coastal habitats are lost as sea levels rise. The ocean ecosystems that support marine life are threatened by the increased acidification and desalination of the ocean caused our historic use of fossil fuels.
OUR FUTURE
The situation is only going to worsen unless we quickly switch over to clean, renewable energy.
THE
SOLUTION
OPPORTUNITY
Now is the moment to embrace clean and renewable sources of energy for ourselves and future generations and ensure that it is done right. Your voice matters.
New Jersey has a unique opportunity to be a national leader in building home-grown offshore wind that would help build wind projects up and down our coastlines.
With hundreds of miles of shoreline and strong wind flows in the Atlantic Ocean, New Jersey is perfectly positioned to build the nation’s largest network of responsibly developed offshore wind projects that can provide renewable and reliable energy to power New Jersey’s homes, businesses and economy.
ECONOMIC BENEFITS
These investments would create thousands of good-paying union jobs and a year-round economy at the Jersey Shore. These jobs could provide opportunity to overburdened and low-income communities.
South Jersey is going to be a hub for offshore wind, and the manufacturing and assembly facilities being built here would serve offshore wind projects throughout the country.
Small businesses up and down the shore are already growing, revitalizing Main Streets in communities across the region.
PROJECTS
NEW YORK-NEW JERSEY BIGHT
The proposed project, to be located in an area between 22-45 miles offshore New York and New Jersey known as the New York Bight (NY Bight), would provide 1,100 Megawatt of clean, reliable energy — enough clean, reliable energy to power nearly two million homes.
ATLANTIC SHORES
Atlantic Shores would power 700,000 homes and deliver more than $800 million in economic benefits to New Jersey. The 1,510 Megawatt project would utilize a network of domestic supplies and specialized marine transport vessels and support thousands of local jobs.
